It's Official: English Teacher Renewed For Season 2 At FX

Get ready to go back to school: FX has officially renewed freshman comedy English Teacher for a second season. Production on the 10-episode Season 2 is tentatively set to begin later this month ahead of a 2025 return.

The news comes two days after TVLine exclusively reported that a renewal was imminent.

"English Teacher was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024 and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors and crew for the show's creative excellence," said FX president Nick Grad in a statement. "We look forward to the new season."

English Teacher stars Brian Jordan Alvarez (who also created the series and serves as an executive producer) as Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas who has to navigate whiny students, angry parents and fed-up colleagues at his school. Stephanie Koenig co-stars as Evan's friend and fellow teacher Gwen Sanders, with Enrico Colantoni as checked-out principal Grant Moretti and Sean Patton as unruly gym teacher Markie.

Debuting in September, English Teacher wrapped up its eight-episode season in October, with Evan surprisingly rekindling things with his ex Malcolm, played by Jordan Firstman. English Teacher earned significant acclaim for its freshman run, including four Independent Spirit Award nominations, led by a nod for best new scripted series.

The series' positive buzz was marred, though, by allegations from Alvarez's former friend and collaborator Jon Ebeling, who claimed that Alvarez sexually assaulted him while filming a web series years ago. Alvarez's lawyer denies these claims, saying Ebeling gave verbal consent and referring to him as "a self-described manipulator."
