ESPN Sets August Launch Date For Stand-Alone Streaming Service, Featuring WWE Events And More NFL
Attention sports fans: a new streamer is about to take the field. Disney has announced a Thursday, Aug. 21 launch date for its stand-alone ESPN streaming service.
The unlimited plan ($29.99 per month) will allow subscribers to stream ESPN's linear networks, as well as access to "47,000 live events each year, on-demand replays, studio shows, original programming and more," according to Variety.
A less pricey option ($11.99 per month) will reportedly include access to stream more than 32,000 live events, although ESPN's linear networks cannot be accessed.
Wrestling enthusiasts will also be pleased to hear that live WWE events, including SummerSlam and WrestleMania, will begin streaming on ESPN in 2026; Peacock has been their streaming home for the past five years through a deal with NBCUniversal.
The expanded NFL offerings in the ESPN app include "select out-of-market NFL preseason games" for the 2025 and 2026 football seasons, access to sports betting information, and personalized ESPN Fantasy League performance updates. ESPN also signed a new multi-year renewal to host the NFL Draft.
This announcement comes on the heels of a major deal between the NFL and ESPN. Per their agreement, the NFL received a 10% equity stake in ESPN, for which ESPN was given control of the NFL Network, among other NFL Media ventures.
