Graham Greene, Defiance And Echo Actor, Dead At 73

Graham Greene, an Oscar-nominated actor whose TV credits include Defiance and Echo, has died. He was 73.

The news of Greene's death was confirmed by his agent Michael Greene, who told TMZ that the actor passed away at a Toronto hospital Sunday afternoon. A cause of death has not been reported.

"He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed," Greene's agent said in a statement to Deadline. "You are finally free. Susan Smith is meeting you at the gates of heaven," he added, referencing the actor's longtime agent who passed away in 2013.

Actress Anna Hopkins, who appeared alongside Greene in Defiance, paid tribute to the late actor on Instagram Monday, writing "Dearest Graham Greene. Strongest. Funniest. LEGEND. Rest easy, friend."

Greene is best known for his work in film, having played Kicking Bird opposite Kevin Costner's Lieutenant Dunbar in the 1990 Western Dancing With Wolves. The movie earned seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and landed Greene a nomination as Best Supporting Actor. He went on to appear in other films such as Maverick, Die Hard With a Vengeance, The Green Mile, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Wind River.

On the TV side, Greene played Rafe McCawley in Syfy's Defiance from 2013 to 2015, and Skully in Disney+'s 2023 limited series Echo. His other TV credits include Tulsa King, Reservation Dogs, The Last of Us, 1883, American Gods, Goliath, Riverdale and Longmire.
