So You Think You Can Dance Winner Joshua Allen Dead At 36
Joshua Allen, who won Season 4 of the Fox dancing competition So You Think You Can Dance, has died; he was just 36 years old.
Allen died Tuesday at a Fort Worth, Texas hospital, Entertainment Weekly reports. No official cause of death has been released, but a family member told TMZ that Allen was struck by a train, asking for "privacy and prayers" and adding: "One of the last things he said was to keep God first at all times. You have to be real with yourself before you can be real with anybody else."
Allen was just 18 years old when he competed in Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance, which aired on Fox in the summer of 2008. Allen, who specialized in hip-hop but excelled in all genres as a contestant, was crowned the winner of Season 4, beating out notable SYTYCD alumni like Stephen "tWitch" Boss, who finished second behind Allen. (Boss died by suicide in 2022 at the age of 40.)
After his victory, Allen appeared in movies like Step Up 3D and the 2011 remake of Footloose. He also appeared on TV shows like Community and American Horror Story and in commercials for McDonald's, Honda and more.
Choreographer Emmanuel Hurd remembered Allen on Instagram: "I can't wrap my head around this... Josh... my brotha. There are no words. You were the life of the party. You were Batman. Champion. One of the realest people I ever met. Kept it a stack every time and would make it right if you fell short. A real King. This one hurts deep. I know you're with Stephen now and that brings me comfort. I love you bro."
