Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 Delayed At Prime Video (Report)
Production on Season 2 of Prime Video's Mr. & Mrs. Smith has been indefinitely delayed, according to a Thursday report from Deadline.
Cast issues appear to be the cause of the production push, which could throw the series' entire future into question, according to the report. (TVLine has reached out to Prime Video for confirmation and further details.)
The spy series was renewed in May of 2024, but at the time, it was uncertain whether stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine would return to reprise their lead roles. It was possible that John and Jane's identities were going to be changed, which could've turned the series into an anthology moving forward.
Then in December of last year, Anora breakout Mark Eydelshteyn was the first new casting announced for Season 2, amid reports that Glover and Erskine wouldn't return for more. Eydelshteyn was reported to be playing Mr. Smith, but that doesn't mean much on the show: All the spies are either named John or Jane Smith, to maintain their anonymity. So it wasn't clear if the actor would've been (or still is?) a lead in Season 2, or just a guest star.
Glover, who co-created the series with showrunner Francesca Sloane, starred as John Smith, an international spy who's paired up with fellow spy Jane (Erskine) to pose as a married couple. The pair were sent out on death-defying missions together while slowly developing real feelings for one another. The first season ended on a deadly cliffhanger, with John clinging to life as he and Jane hid from a murderous pair of spies in their townhouse's panic room. (Read our full finale recap here.)
