Nobody Wants This Renewed For Season 2 At Netflix, With New Showrunners
Nobody Wants This? More like Everybody Wants This!
Netflix has renewed the Kristen Bell and Adam Brody-starring romantic-comedy series for Season 2, to premiere in 2025, TVLine has confirmed.
Additionally, Girls vets Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will serve as executive producers and showrunners on Season 2. Creator Erin Foster — on whose life the show is loosely based — will return as an exec producer alongside star Kristen Bell and Steve Levitan.
"Creating Nobody Wants This will forever be a career highlight for me," Foster said in a statement. "The incredible cast, crew, producers and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers' reactions to this series now that it's out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed. I'm so lucky to be able to continue this story, and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I've been such a fan of since Girls... Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!"
The series stars Bell (The Good Place, Veronica Mars) as Joanne, an agnostic podcast producer/host with a track record of picking the wrong guy — that is until she meets Noah (The O.C. vet Adam Brody) at a dinner party. Immediately, the two click and flirt, all while Joanne fails to realize that Noah is a rabbi. When the truth comes out, both Noah and Joanne recognize that their differing belief systems and lifestyles make them ill-suited for each other in many ways, but they can't deny their attraction and start a relationship.
In the Season 1 finale, Joanne had a change of heart about converting to Judaism after hearing from Noah's ex-girlfriend about the responsibility that comes with being a rabbi's wife. With his promotion to head rabbi at stake, Joanne told Noah, "You can't have both. And I would never make you choose."
But Noah, seemingly, made the choice himself when he later went after her. "You were right. I can't have both," he said, then kissed Joanne... and gave up his job promotion for love?
"I like to think he's chosen Joanne, and the rest will work itself out, but that's not his primary concern," Brody told TVLine. "I don't know if, in the light of day, he still feels that way, but in the moment, I feel like that's what he's communicating."
Added Bell: "I kind of feel like they're both trying to compromise for each other, and then the excitement with a Season 2 is, like, where is it going to go? Are they going to let the factors of the world affect what they feel between them? And isn't that kind of a topic everybody thinks about once in a while? Like, do I want what I want? Or do I want what society wants for me?"
Nobody Wants This' ensemble also includes Timothy Simons (Veep) as Noah's brother, Sasha; Justine Lupe (Succession) as Joanne's sister, Morgan; Jackie Tohn (GLOW) as Sasha's wife, Esther; Paul Ben-Victor (In Plain Sight) and Tovah Feldshuh (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Noah and Sasha's parents, Ilan and Bina; Michael Hitchcock (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and Stephanie Faracy (Devious Maids) as Joanne and Morgan's parents, Henry and Lynn; and Sherry Cola (Good Trouble) as Joanne and Noah's mutual friend, Ashley.
Deadline was first to break the renewal news.
