Peacock Announces Biggest Price Increase Ever, Will Test Stripped-Down Plan

It soon will cost you more than ever to proudly watch Peacock.

The NBCUniversal streaming hub on Thursday announced its latest — and largest — price increase ever, while also offering the lifeline of a stripped-down "Peacock Select" tier that will allow access to... well, select shows.

First, the price bumps.

Starting Wednesday, July 23, Peacock Premium Plus, which allows viewers to stream mostly without ads, will go up $3 to a monthly charge of $16.99; Peacock Premium Plus' annual price will in turn rise from $139.99 to $169.99.

Peacock Premium, which has ads, also will increase $3 to $10.99 per month, or $109.99/year (up from $79.99).

Current subscribers will see the higher rates starting with bills issued on or after Aug. 22.

Peacock last upped the ante almost exactly a year ago, in what was only its second increase since launching in April 2020.

If Peacock is simply getting too rich for your blood, the streamer is going to be quietly testing an ad-supported "Select" tier that fetches a mere $7.99/month and affords access to next-day streaming of NBC and Bravo programs, week-daily Days of Our Lives episodes and "a broad assortment of library titles" (as Vulture puts it)... but no Peacock originals (such as Poker Face or The Traitors), no NBC Sports programming, and no streaming movie premieres (e.g. M3GAN 2.0, where are you?!).

Peacock is the exclusive streaming home of current NBC programming, with series like Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Fire available to view the day after they air on the broadcast network. Peacock also became the exclusive home for Law & Order: Organized Crime beginning with Season 5, though the Christopher Meloni-led procedural is still awaiting renewal news.
