Power Rangers Update: Percy Jackson Bosses In Talks To Pen A Live-Action Series For Disney+

The notion of a new Power Rangers series is powering back up.

Sources confirm for TVLine that Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write and showrun anew, live-action Power Rangers series, to stream on Disney+. Hasbro would produce the series, with 20th Century TV.

The Wrap first reported on the prospective new series and Steinberg/Shotz's interest.

It was back in June 2024 that TVLine reported that a live-action Power Rangers that had been in development since 2022 — from veteran Supernatural story editor Jenny Klein, working in collaboration with Power Rangers franchise overlord Jonathan Entwistle — was no longer moving forward at Netflix.

At that time, Power Rangers owner Hasbro Entertainment set out to explore a new creative direction for the series, and with a new partner.

Entwistle, who co-created I Am Not Okay With This and The End Of The F***ing World, was tapped in October 2020 to oversee the development of both television and film projects for Power Rangers — for, as he once dubbed it, a Power Rangers "cinematic universe."

In June 2022, Klein, coming off of NBC's The Thing About Pam, inked a two-year overall deal with eOne, under which she aimed to develop genre- and drama-based content and serve as showrunner on her Power Rangers series.

The very first Power Rangers series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, debuted more than 30 years ago and has spawned myriad offshoots and movies — most recently including Power Rangers Dino Fury/Power Rangers Cosmic Fury and a Mighty Morphin reunion special, all for Netflix.
