Presumed Innocent Season 2 To Feature Female Lead, Non-Scott Turow Book Inspiration

Apple TV+ is shedding a little more light on what Presumed Innocent has on the docket for Season 2.

The acclaimed legal thriller will switch gears and focus on a female lead character next season, taking inspiration from the upcoming novel Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray, a source confirms to TVLine. (Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.)

In that book, due out Spring 2026, a young defense attorney named Leila Reynolds finds herself handling her first murder case — and her husband happens to be the prosecutor. "Soon, Leila is fighting to keep her own secrets buried, too," per the official description.

Apple TV+ renewed Presumed Innocent for a second season back in July, noting at the time that Season 2 would "revolve around a new case." That signaled that the series would become an anthology, after Season 1 starred Jake Gyllenhaal as prosecutor Rusty Sabich, who was accused of murdering his colleague and mistress. Season 1 was based on the Scott Turow bestseller that also inspired a 1990 movie version starring Harrison Ford.

No casting for Season 2 has been announced yet — it's still possible some characters from Season 1 could return, per Deadline — but Gyllenhaal will return behind the scenes as an executive producer, along with Season 1 EPs David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams. Season 1 of Presumed Innocent ranks as Apple TV+'s most viewed drama series of all time, according to the streamer.
