Rescue: HI-Surf Cancelled At Fox

Fox is waving goodbye to Rescue: HI-Surf, cancelling the lifeguard drama after one season, TVLine has confirmed. Additionally, Warner Bros. Television will not be shopping the show to other outlets.

This is only the second time ever that TVLine's annual Save One Show poll winner did not in fact get saved, in any form. The first was The CW's Legacies in 2022.

Season 1 of Rescue HI-Surf averaged 2.8 million total viewers (with delayed playback), ranking No. 5 out of the seven dramas Fox aired this TV season; in the coveted 18-49 demo, it places third (behind only Doc and the cancelled 9-1-1: Lone Star). The island drama delivered 65% audience retention out of lead-in Lone Star, and was this season's 10th-most watched new broadcast drama (out of 12).

Rescue: HI-Surf starred Robbie Magasiva as Harlan "Sonny" Jennings, Arielle Kebbel as Emily "Em" Wright, Adam Demos as Will Ready, Kekoa Scott Kekumano as Laka Hanohano, Zoe Cipres as Hina Alexander and Alex Aiono as Kainalu Emerson. Creator Matt Kester served as showrunner, executive-producing alongside Daniele Nathanson, Erin Jontow and John Wells.

Kester, a Hawaii native and lifelong surfer, created the series as a tribute to the men and women who keep the North Shore safe. "From the time I was a kid, lifeguards were a ubiquitous presence," he told TVLine when Rescue: HI-Surf premiered in September 2024. "Everybody has a ton of respect for them. The waves get big here, they get dangerous, and every time you go out there, you feel a little bit better knowing they're in the tower watching over you."
