Robert Downey Jr. Surprises Ironheart Stars With Virtual GMA Drop-In: 'Iron Man Loves Ironheart' — WATCH
The MCU's erstwhile Iron Man beamed into ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday to show some love to his successor-of-sorts.
Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos were on-set with the morning show, to promote Disney+'s next live-action Marvel series, Ironheart, when co-anchor Robin Roberts hit pause to cue up a message from a special guest.
Appearing on-screen in a pre-taped bit, MCU vet Robert Downey Jr. said, "Ms. Thorne, I couldn't be happier than to be seeing you bring Riri Williams to life," as the young actress first did in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
RDJ then attempted a joke about Ramos' Ironheart character, The Hood aka Parker Robbins, supplanting Doctor Doom (whom Downey Jr. will be playing in upcoming MCU films), before wrapping things up by forming a heart with his fingers and saying: "Long story short, Iron Man loves Ironheart."
Thorne responded in kind with a handmade heart and saying to the screen, "Ironheart loves Iron Man, too."
Thorne went on to tell GMA's Roberts that this was not the first time since booking the series that she's heard from Downey Jr.
"Shortly after we finished filming [Season 1] in Chicago is when I got the first phone call from him," she shared. "He's been so sweet, through and through. So, the support, it means so much. It really does."
Premiering on Disney+ Tuesday, June 24 at 9/8c (with its first three episodes), Ironheart is set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and "pits technology against magic when Thorne's Riri — determined to make her mark on the world — returns to her hometown of Chicago.
Riri's "unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka "The Hood" (played by Anthony Ramos)," the synopsis tells us.
The series also stars Lyric Ross (This Is Us) as Riri's best friend Natalie Washington, Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) as friend "Joe McGillicuddy," Manny Montana (Graceland) as Cousin John, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White as Riri's mother Ronnie, and Regan Aliyah (reportedly as Zelma Stanton).
