Sweetpea Renewed For Season 2 At Starz
Sweetpea just got some pretty sweet news.
The murder drama starring Ella Purnell has been renewed for Season 2 at Starz, the network announced Tuesday.
The series stars Purnell (Yellowjackets, Sweetbitter) as Rhiannon Lewis, a meek newspaper-office receptionist who was mercilessly bullied in high school. In the wake of her father's death and a few other big life blows, she winds up killing a man who's threatening her... then realizes that she likes the power that murder gives her. Soon, her high school bully, Julia, becomes her next target — and then things get really complicated.
In Season 2, per the official release, Rhiannon's "killer secret continues to spiral, and she becomes more twisted than ever."
"Being part of Rhiannon's coming-of-rage journey has been a career highlight for me, and to see fans engage with and relate to our oddball Rhiannon, in all her complexity, feels truly special," Purnell said via statement. "I cannot wait for audiences to see what she does next. Stay tuned."
Sweetpea's six-episode first season premiered in October and is available to stream on Starz.
"Ella Purnell's killer performance captured the journey of a woman finally finding her voice, and we're thrilled with the response from critics and viewers," said Alison Hoffman, president, Starz Networks, via statement. "Sweetpea's unique take on female agency is a perfect complement to Starz's slate of programming for women. We're pleased to continue our partnership with [producers] Sky Studios and Ella Purnell in bringing another season of this addictive series to U.S. audiences."
