The Wheel Of Time: In New Season 3 Trailer, Rand Realizes, 'This Is What I Was Born To Do!'
The Wheel of Time will start spinning again when Season 3 of the Prime Video adaptation premieres on Thursday, March 13.
Season 3 will premiere with the first three episodes, followed by weekly drops building to an April 17 finale.
The new Wheel of Time trailer highlights this season's high-stakes drama and offers a peek into the fantasy saga's changing world, where the powerful Aes Sedai, Moiraine Damodred (played by Rosamund Pike), is tormented by her visions of the future, and Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) struggles to fulfill his destiny as the Dragon Reborn. Will he choose the Light, or let the Darkness consume him?
WHAT IS SEASON 3 ABOUT?
Based on the best-selling Robert Jordan fantasy novels, The Wheel of Time tells the story of Rand a'Thor, a humble farm boy who learns he is The Dragon Reborn — a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world ... or break it.
At the end of Season 2, Rand after defeating Ishamael reunites with his friends at Falme and is declared the Dragon Reborn. But in Season 3, which is primarily based on the fourth book of Jordan's series, The Shadow Rising, "the threats against the Light are multiplying," the official synopsis tells us. "The White Tower stands divided, the Black Ajah run free, old enemies return to the Two Rivers, and the remaining Forsaken are in hot pursuit of the Dragon... including Lanfear (Natasha O'Keeffe), whose relationship with Rand will mark a crucial choice between Light and Dark for them both.
"As the ties to his past begin to unravel, and his corrupted power grows stronger, Rand becomes increasingly unrecognizable to his closest allies, Moiraine and Egwene," the overview continues. "These powerful women, who started the series as teacher and student, must now work together to prevent the Dragon from turning to the Dark... no matter the cost."
WHO IS RETURNING FOR SEASON 3?
In addition to Rosamund Pike, Josha Stradowski, Madeleine Madden and Natasha O'Keeffe, The Wheel of Time stars Daniel Henney al'Lan Mandragoran, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al'Meara, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Dónal Finn as Mat Cauthon, Ceara Coveney as Elayne Trakand, Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin Guirale, Ayoola Smart as Aviendha, Sophie Okonedo as Siuan, and Kae Alexander as Min Farshaw.
WHO IS NEW FOR SEASON 3?
Emmy winner Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, The Penguin) will play one of the powerful Aes Sedai — specifically, Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan, a highly anticipated character from Jordan's novels. Elaida is described as "a ruthlessly powerful Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah, as proficient in politicking as she is in channeling. She has a deep history with Moiraine (Pike) and Siuan (Sophie Okonedo), and scores to settle with both of them when she returns to the White Tower."
Olivia Williams (Dune: Prophecy), Callum Kerr (Hollyoaks, Monarch), Luke Fetherston (Still Up, CBBC's Almost Never) and Nuno Lopes (The New Look, Portugal's A Fazenda) will round out the royal family of Andor — the largest, most populous, and most influential country within the heart of the Westlands. Additionally, Isabella Bucceri will play Faile Bashere, a Saldaean 'Hunter of the Horn' whose efforts to locate a treasured relic have led her to The Two Rivers; Nukâka Coster-Waldau (Thin Ice) plays Bair, eldest Wise One and most respected member of the Taardad Aiel; Salóme Gunnarsdóttir (The Lazarus Project) plays Melaine, a Wise One of the Taardad Aiel who is able to access a mystical power; Björn Landberg (the German soap Unter uns) as Rhuarc, the Clan Chief who is one of the few Taardad Aiel who knows what lies within the fog, though he is forbidden to speak of it; and Synnøve Macody Lund (Ragnarok) as Melindhra, a Malkieri survivor who was taken in and raised by the Taardad Aiel.
