T.K. And Carlos' Relationship Hits A 'Rough Patch' In Emotional 9-1-1: Lone Star Sneak Peek (Exclusive)
Brace yourselves, #Tarlos fans, because your favorite 'ship is headed for rocky waters.
In TVLine's exclusive sneak peek of tonight's 9-1-1: Lone Star (Fox, 8/7c), T.K. turns to Tommy for advice on how to handle the "rough patch" he and Carlos are going through. Specifically, T.K. feels that Carlos' obsession with his father's murder is intruding on their marriage and making it harder to connect.
"He's as consumed with it as the day it happened," T.K. explains. "It kind of feels like living with an addict. I mean, I should know, right?" When Tommy encourages him to be honest with Carlos, he replies, "I wish, but I feel like the harder I press, the more he tunes me out."
Then things get a little awkward. "How do you and Trevor do it?" T.K. asks, forcing Tommy to reveal the events of last week's episode: "Well, we don't... we didn't... we broke up." Cue T.K. wanting to crawl into a hole and die of embarrassment.
Fortunately, Tommy still has some leftover advice from her marriage to Charles, leading her to open up about a dark period of her life that we wouldn't have expected. Then again, we're shocked anytime a character played by Gina Torres is revealed to be anything other than completely flawless.
"That scene is very cathartic," Ronen Rubinstein (aka T.K.) tells TVLine. "It's a moment for Tommy to really embrace T.K. as a son figure and for T.K. to embrace Tommy as a mother figure. Gina and I bonded on such a beautiful level this season. This is definitely my favorite scene with Tommy by far, and I think it's one of my favorite scenes I've ever had as T.K. on so many levels — especially it being something that he would have gone to his mom about, and how important she was to him. The fact that he felt comfortable and safe enough to go to Tommy and have this conversation really shows the evolution of of their relationship and their dynamic."
