High Potential Boss Talks Latest Turn In The Search For Roman, Teases 'Big Reveals' Coming For Morgan And Ava

The hunt for Roman Sinquerra is quickly becoming a family affair. Tuesday's episode of High Potential found Morgan conflicted over whether she should bring Ava up to speed, including telling her about Roman's "friend" Arthur (Mekhi Phifer) checking in on them. And in the end, she did.

"There are certain things you hide from your kids to protect them, but at some point you cross a line where it becomes more harm than good," showrunner Todd Harthan tells TVLine. "Morgan has gotten to that line and is smart enough to know that Ava is mature enough to handle it. In many ways, Ava is wise beyond her years, so Morgan tags her in."

Unfortunately, Morgan began to question that decision when the police called to say that Ava had been (gasp!) arrested for vandalizing one of Roman's murals in the city. And things only got worse when Morgan arrived on the scene: she tried to explain that the mural was painted by Ava's father, and that she was merely acting out, but she kinda-sorta "assaulted" one of the police officers with paint, landing the mother-daughter duo in a cozy little jail cell.

Once her anger subsided, Ava admitted how hurt she is by the truth about her father's disappearance. When she thought Roman was kidnapped, at least she could believe that his absence wasn't his fault. But knowing that Roman has been nearby all this time means that he didn't want to be around — and perhaps even that he doesn't love his daughter.

"The thing that keeps Morgan up at night is thinking about how this is affects her daughter," Harthan explains. "It's a dark cloud that hangs over Ava's head every single day. It's probably the first thing she thinks about when she wakes up and the last thing she thinks about when she goes to bed, and Morgan doesn't want her daughter living under that cloud anymore."

Morgan's feelings about Roman, on the other hand, are a little different. Though she did love him when they were together, "Morgan's feelings have graduated to less about still being in love with this man who's been gone for 15 years," Harthan says. "It's all coming from the place of a mother wanting to answer these questions and get closure for her daughter."

Moving forward, Harthan promises that Morgan and Ava's search for Roman is "not going to be a smooth ride" for anyone involved. "How that unfolds, both good and bad, is going to be powerful and compelling," he says. "And it leads to some pretty big reveals."
