Uh-Oh, Is 'Matlock' About To Get Found Out, With 3 Episodes Still Left To Air?

The following recap contains spoilers from the April 3 episode of CBS' Matlock.

With four three episodes left to air (over the next two weeks, including a two-hour season finale on April 17), it looks like "Matty Matlock" is about to get busted by her bestie boss.

This week's episode ostensibly was about Matty (using a scary voice modulator) nudging Mrs. B to do her bidding. But the episode's title, "The Johnson Case," quietly spoke more directly to the major developments at hand.

Regarding Mrs. Belvin, Matty while staked out in the park ran into trouble getting "ReadEmAndWeep31" to elaborate on the timing of the Welbrexa study's disappearance. In a bid to nudge the Redditor, Matty sent a package containing a dog biscuit to Mrs. B via the mail cart, then placed a voice-modulated call gently threatening "Barry Manilow."

Mrs. B thought she outsmarted her mysterious contact by entrusting Matty (meaning, Edwin and Alfie) to watch Barry Manilow while she was sidelined by a "dental procedure." Matty trumped her source, though, by telling Mrs. B that Alfie had turned Barry Manilow over to "Adam," an alleged friend of Mrs. B's who'd sent to retrieve the pooch. Her anxiety elevated anew, Mrs. B phoned her contact (now Edwin, using the voice modulator) to share what they wanted to know — that there was an office fire drill the morning the doc went missing, unlocking all doors and rendering card keys unnecessary.

A review of the fire drill logs showed that of the Welbrexa team, neither Senior, Olympia nor Junior checked in. Senior was abroad that day, and Matty got the idea to confirm that Olympia was in court at the time. So that means Olympia is now in the clear!

Matty, however, isn't. Because just as she embarked on her nightly trip home, beaming over both a big court win and learning that her boss wasn't behind the Welbrexa cover-up, who does she bump into in the course of transitioning from city bus to car service but Olympia!

Olympia had in her arms the folder for the mysterious "Johnson Case," which Matty, Billy and Sarah had speculated contained Olympia's secret plan to leave the firm for the public defender's office. We then saw via flashbacks how Olympia recently started growing suspicious of "Matty Matlock," by revisiting three key events from different points of view.

The discovery of the spy pen, that Matty suggested was Julian eavesdropping on his soon-to-be-ex wife? Olympia confirmed with Julian that it absolutely was not his.

That time Matty fetched Alfie's wallet from Olympia's office, lest her boss discover the kid had been snooping? Olympia in fact found it first, but let Matty think she hadn't.

The "Johnson" file in Olympia's arms seemingly contained the smoking gun. Because after having her curiosity piqued by the strange woman (Bitsy) who delivered to court the piece of evidence Matty could't find, Olympia got a snap of her license plate using the outside CCTV cameras, then had it traced by Supergirl's Azie Tesfai.

"So, who the hell are you, 'Matty Matlock'?" a stern Olympia asked at the bus stop, before the camera went to black.

Does Olympia in fact have Matty dead to rights? Or will Matty be able to talk her way out of this one?
