Matlock Left Matty And Olympia In A Very Surprising Place Ahead Of 2-Hour Finale
The following contains spoilers for the April 10 episode of CBS' Matlock.
"The truth will set you free," the saying goes. But did owning up to her litany of lies, misleads and sins of omission put "Matty Matlock" aka Madeline Kingston in Olympia Lawrence good-ish graces?
Ahead of the two-hour Season 1 finale airing April 17, this week's penultimate episode picked up right where we left off, with Olympia confronting "Matlock" at the bus stop. Olympia tells Matty to text her town driver to leave, after which they hop a cab back to Jacobson Moore. There, Olympia leads Matty to an empty 25th floor office, has her dump out her purse, and then actually frisks her — turning up a burner phone strapped to her ankle!
After acquiring Matty's passcode, Olympia texts Alfie that she will be home late, and then shoves Matty's phone and laptop into her own bag. Lastly, Olympia tasks Matty with detailing every single lie she has told since they met on a legal pad, before heading back downstairs to her own office.

Things are atypically hopping at the firm at this late hour, seeing as Amy, a client's very pregnant wife — played by Sweet/Vicious' Eliza Bennett, who was 36 weeks along fr during filming! — has shown up, unannounced, to detail the mental abuse she has endured, including her husband Grant's demand that she move up her C-section to 9 am that next morning (all because he has a work trip). Olympia brings in Billy and Sarah to work the case, get Amy some time in front of a night court judge, all while "explaining" that the other member of their team, Matty, is home getting needed rest.
Olympia returns to 25 to retrieve Matty's list of lies, giving her alleged "friend" no time to speak and scoffing at her offering of an old law firm contact to verify her work history. Reading Matty's story at her desk, Olympia stops in her tracks when she hits the word "husband" — and then signs into Matty's phone to glean that "Building Super" in her text history is her very much alive spouse. When Olympia returns to Matty and has her check in with her "super," on speakerphone, she hears Edwin speak of how much Olympia means to his wife. She also hears Edwin refer to them learning that "Olympia didn't do it," and after Matty hangs up, she recaps the whole Redditor story and how she has been working to ID who, exactly, took from discovery and and hid the damning Welbrexa study.
When Olympia thinks to call the cops, Matty notes her own "unlawful imprisonment" there on 25, and also makes clear that all of her research would get sent to the Times. Olympia sees that as proof of Matty's contempt for her, but Matty makes clear that she only wants to nail the person who actually abetted Senior. And if Olympia helps her with one final detail, she will make sure her name stays clean, especially in her kids' eyes.

Hearing Matty's phone vibrate inside Olympia's purse (when they text her) gets Billy and Sarah curious, and they soon enough find Matty on 25. When Olympia returns there, though, she sees that Matty has spun a story about trying out a new office, and suggests Olympia "accidentally" grabbed her phone earlier. Olympia then fully tags in Matty to help with the pregnant lady/annulment case, and they wind up proving that the husband committed fraud by saying any kids would not need to be religious when he in fact had made arrangements for their firstborn's baptism.
Back at her office, Olympia tests a theory of Matty's by asking Julian where he got the windfall of money that years ago allowed them to buy their townhome. He claims that his mother suddenly allowed him to access a trust — though Matty contends that he in fact used a payoff from Welbrexa. Her interest piqued, Olympia returns to 25 to fetch Matty, and next we see, Edwin and Alfie are answering the doorbell at their Westchester manse... to see Matty standing there with Olympia!
