Wednesday EPs Explain What That Episode 4 Cliffhanger Means For Part 2: Is [Spoiler] Really Dead?
Spoiler alert: We're about to break down the ending of Wednesday Season 2, Episode 4. Haven't watched yet? You've been warned.
This might be an insane question to ask, given that her name is the title of the show, but is Wednesday Addams... dead?
The fourth episode of Wednesday's second season, now streaming on Netflix, ends with Jenna Ortega's character being thrown out of the window of an asylum by Hyde hottie Tyler, landing on the concrete below.
"I've always dreamed of looking death in the face, but in my final moments, all I hear is my mother's words ringing in my ears," Wednesday says in one last voiceover as she bleeds out. "Maybe I have made everything worse. Much worse."
Look, we're not saying she's going to stay dead, but it's fair to wonder if Wednesday is, as she suggests, slipping away from the land of the living. If there's one thing she'd love to see — even if only to visit — it's the afterlife.
"That's a pretty significant fall," co-showrunner Alfred Gough tells TVLine. Adds co-showrunner Miles Millar, "I remember being on the location scout, looking up at this window, saying that if any normal person was thrown out of a window by a monster and landed on that concrete, they'd be a human pancake."
That said, "she is Teflon, and the show is called Wednesday, so I predict that she'll be back," Millar says. "We really wanted to end the first four with a with a bang, and hopefully we didn't disappoint. It's a fantastic sequence, and Tim [Burton] directed the hell out of it. Hopefully it leaves audiences on the edge of their seats wanting to come back for more."
Meanwhile, Wednesday's attacker remains very much at large. And with Thornhill dead at Tyler's hand — er, claw — it's anyone's guess how that will play out.
"We established that a Hyde can't really live without a master, so what does that mean?" Gough asks. "Now you have this unhinged monster out in the world, and what's that going to be? We wanted to make sure that it was an impactful death."
What are your theories about that ending? Do you think Wednesday might (temporarily) slip into the afterlife? And how much fun would that be?! Grade the finale and season overall in our polls below, then drop a comment with your thoughts on Wednesday's "final moments."
