The Buccaneers Trailer: American Girls Bring Modern Sass To London In Apple TV+'s Edith Wharton Adaptation
Looking to get your Bridgerton fix with a side of sly humor, a la The Sex Lives of College Girls? Apple TV+'s new series The Buccaneers might be just what you ordered.
Apple has released a trailer for the eight-episode drama based on Edith Wharton's unfinished final novel, premiering Wednesday, Nov. 8 on the streamer. In it, we get to know a vibrant group of American girls in the 1870s who are shipped off to London for a debutante ball and quickly go to work dismantling the rigid gender roles enforced by high society. They're looking for marriage, men and parties, "but darlings, we always come first," Conchita reminds her friends. Nan falls into a whirlwind romance with a handsome lord, but she's put off by the way women are treated like cattle over there, and she finds a sympathetic ear in another handsome suitor... who might just be royalty. (Plus, the Olivia Rodrigo song really sets the mood, huh?)
Kristine Froseth (The Society) stars as Nan, with Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why) as Conchita and Josie Totah (Saved by the Bell) as Mabel. The cast also includes Mad Men alum Christina Hendricks as Nan's mother Mrs. St. George. Katherine Jakeways (Tracey Ullman's Show) serves as writer and creator.
