The Chosen Season 5 Gets Amazon Premiere Date, Trailer Teasing Jesus' Final Days

Amazon Prime Video is the chosen one.

As part of an expansive deal between Amazon MGM Studios and The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins' 5&2 Studios, Prime Video in February became the exclusive U.S. streaming home for the first five seasons of the Jesus-centric historical drama, as well as the upcoming two final seasons.

Season 5 aka The Chosen: The Last Supper, which made its theatrical debut March 28 in the U.S., will land on Prime Video Sunday, June 15, the streamer announced today, while also releasing the new trailer seen above.

Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season series is described as "a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus (played by Jonathan Roumie), seen through the eyes of those who knew him."

The new season "follows Jesus' triumph to treachery as his final days unfold in a story that changed the world," an official synopsis tells us. "Welcomed as a king into Jerusalem, he boldly confronts the corrupt merchants, sparking a chain of events that shakes the city. While religious leaders scramble to silence his growing influence, Jesus shares one last meal with his closest followers. But in the shadows, Judas (Luke Dimyan) makes a deal that seals both their fates. In a tale of power, faith, and betrayal that echoes through time – one man's ultimate sacrifice becomes humanity's greatest story."

The cast also includes Shahar Isaac as Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Noah James as Andrew, George H. Xanthis as John, Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James, Vanessa Benavente as Mother Mary, Richard Fancy as Caiaphas, Paul Ben-Victor as King Herod and Andrew James Allen as Pontius Pilate. 

The Chosen Season 5 will be available on Prime Video in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, UK and Latin America at a later date this year.

Also as part of the aforementioned deal, Prime Video will have exclusive dibs on 5&2 Studios' new unscripted series The Chosen in the Wild With Bear Grylls, and Amazon MGM Studios gets a first look at upcoming series and film projects from 5&2 Studios.

The Chosen in the Wild With Bear Grylls, a six-episode unscripted series, is described thusly: "From Judas to Jesus, Bear Grylls" — renowned adventurer, and author of the faith-based bestseller Soul Fuel and the upcoming The Greatest Story Ever Told — "takes the cast of The Chosen, as well as director Dallas Jenkins, on their own adventures into the wilderness. Bear Grylls will find out exactly what makes his guests tick, explore their personal journeys, and push them to their ultimate limits."
