The Diplomat: Kate Makes A Steamy New Alliance In Season 3 Trailer — Watch
Look out, Hal: Kate might be brushing up on her international relations in Season 3 of The Diplomat.
Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming season of the Keri Russell-led political thriller (premiering Thursday, Oct. 16), and in it, we see the aftermath of President Rayburn's shocking death and VP Grace Penn's immediate elevation to commander-in-chief. Plus, Allison Janney's West Wing co-star Bradley Whitford joins the cast as Grace's husband Todd Penn, who winkingly refers to himself as the "First Lady."
But we also see Kate getting up close and personal with a dashing new character played by Poldark alum Aidan Turner. Later, the new guy and Kate lock a door and run into each other's arms (!). Plus, there's still a vibe between Kate and Dennison, with the two sharing a late-night drink and holding hands in front of a roaring fire. Who has time to run the world with all these fireworks going on?
In Season 3, "Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want," per the official synopsis. "She just accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she's after the VP's job. But now the President is dead, Kate's husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal's campaign to land Kate the vice presidency. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford)."
