Meghan Markle In Talks To Join Cast Of Netflix's The Gentlemen In Return To Acting
Meghan Markle is eyeing a return to the small screen.
The former "Suits" star (and the wife of the U.K.'s Prince Harry) is in "advanced discussions" to join the cast of the Netflix series "The Gentlemen," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The part is being written for a potential third season, which hasn't officially been announced yet at the streamer. No details on her role have been released, but THR reports that Markle met series creator Guy Ritchie "through mutual acquaintances." (TVLine has reached out to Netflix for confirmation.)
The news comes as Markle and Prince Harry plan to move back to the U.K., where "The Gentlemen" is filmed. (Some reports claim that the role on "The Gentlemen" is a primary reason for the surprise move, calling it "a key part of the puzzle.") Markle played paralegal-turned-attorney Rachel Zane for seven seasons on the USA Network legal drama "Suits," but she left the series in 2017 amid her engagement to Prince Harry and hasn't acted since. (The royal family even reached out to "Suits" producers to have a line of Markle's dialogue changed.) Meghan and Harry married in 2018 and share two children, Archie and Lilibet.
The Gentlemen returns for Season 2 this fall on Netflix
Debuting on Netflix in March 2024, "The Gentlemen" stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman, a former Army captain who unexpectedly inherits his late father's estate... and the criminal empire that apparently comes with it. (Guy Ritchie created the series based on his 2019 film.) Kaya Scodelario co-stars as crime boss Susie, with Ray Winstone as Susie's imprisoned father Bobby.
Season 2 premieres Thursday, September 3, with all eight episodes dropping at once. ("Downton Abbey" alum Hugh Bonneville joins the cast as well.) In the new season, "it's been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby's criminal empire overseas," per the official synopsis. "As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well."
