Emmys 2026: The Pitt, Widow's Bay, And DTF St. Louis Win Big, While Jean Smart And Matthew Rhys Make History — See Full List

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards were presented Monday, in an NBC ceremony hosted by "Law & Order: SVU" leading lady Mariska Hargitay.

Heading into the 2026 Emmys, HBO Max's "The Pitt" led all series with 25 nominations and ultimately claimed Outstanding Drama Series for the second year in a row. Noah Wyle also repeated as Outstanding Lead Actor, while "Pluribus" earned Rhea Seehorn her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress and creator Vince Gilligan took home the award for Outstanding Writing. Allison Janney of "The Diplomat" and Tom Pelphrey of "Task" prevailed in the supporting races.

In the comedy field, "Hacks" entered the night with 24 nominations — a new record for the most nominations earned by a comedy in a single year — but it was "Widow's Bay" that took home Outstanding Comedy Series. The Apple TV freshman also scored wins for Lead Actor (Matthew Rhys), Supporting Actress (Kate O'Flynn), Supporting Actor (Stephen Root), Outstanding Directing, and Outstanding Writing. Rhys' victory capped a rare double win for the actor, who earlier in the night took home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for Netflix's "The Beast in Me."

Meanwhile, Jean Smart made Emmy history with her fifth Lead Actress win for playing Deborah Vance on "Hacks," having now won the category for every season of the HBO Max comedy — a feat not even "Veep" six-time winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus accomplished.

In the limited series/TV-movie race, HBO's "DTF St. Louis" took home Outstanding Limited Series, while Sally Field claimed Outstanding Lead Actress for "Remarkably Bright Creatures."
