Casting News: Edie Falco's Fox Legal Drama, SVU's New Recruit, And More

Edie Falco will see you in court. The four-time Emmy winner has been tapped to play the title role in "Katie Greaves," a new legal drama at Fox, TVLine has learned. "Katie Greaves" is expected to premiere during the 2027–2028 TV season.

Falco's Katie is described as a "whip-smart, fiercely committed attorney who stepped away from the New Hampshire Public Defender's office following a devastating personal tragedy." When the show picks up, she and her husband are raising their two young granddaughters, "trying to piece together a life she never expected." But because justice will always be her calling, "Katie is drawn back to the work that once defined her. Each case tests Katie's instincts, wit, and deeply held belief that everyone deserves a second chance — and someone to fight for them."

Writer Sharr White ("Presumed Innocent") serves as showrunner of "Katie Greaves," executive-producing alongside Falco, Ridley Scott, and David W. Zucker.

• NBC has confirmed what Mariska Hargitay has been talking about for weeks (and posted to Instagram yesterday): New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson will guest-star on "Law & Order: SVU" in the procedural's upcoming Season 28. His role is being kept under wraps; in Hargitay's social post, Brunson is wearing a police badge around his neck. He'll appear in Episode 5, which will air on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 9/8c.
• Jessica Chastain ("George & Tammy") has joined Emilia Jones and Amy Ryan in "The Retrievals," a Netflix drama inspired by Susan Burton's podcast about a group of IVF patients at Yale University who unite against the hospital after being operated on without anesthesia because their fentanyl was stolen by a nurse. New cast additions also include Fabien Frankel ("House of the Dragon") and Will Harrison ("Daisy Jones & The Six"), per Deadline.
• Bookem Woodbine ("Fargo") will star opposite James Marsden on Apple TV's "Disavowed," Deadline reports. The action thriller follows a celebrated CIA case officer (Marsden) who is suddenly pulled from the hunt for a high-profile assassin — so he decides to go rogue and pursue him on his own.
• Meghann Fahy ("The White Lotus") will star in the limited series "Smokeshow," based on Catriona Stewart's upcoming novel, Deadline reports. From SK Global and David E. Kelley productions, "Smokeshow" follows a covert operative named Rory (Fahy) who develops feelings for her target, forcing her to choose between her sense of duty and her chance at love.
• CBS and MTV have announced additional performers for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, airing Sunday, September 27, at 7:30/6:30c on both networks. Those names include GENER8ION, Gunna, LISA, RAYE, Shaboozey, SIENNA SPIRO, and Yung Lean.
