It's a good day to be an "Avatar" fan: During the franchise's panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, Paramount+ announced big news about a new animated series in development, along with a super-sized renewal for an existing "Avatar" property.

The next installment in the franchise will be "Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos," an animated series about the teenage years of Kuruk, an infamous character originally introduced in Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

Here's what to expect, according to the streamer: "A rebellious teenage Avatar bucks thousands of years of tradition by choosing to learn the four elements through globetrotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits — all while helping the world in his own unique ways."

"Avatar" co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino were on hand to make the big announcement, joined on the panel by "Seven Havens" voice actors Saheli Khan (Pavi), Aishu Devan (Nish), and Major Curda (Jae), as well as executive producer Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi. And who better to moderate the panel than Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra?

Konietzko will serve as showrunner of "Kuruk." Though footage of the new series has yet to be released, we did get our first look via the art below, featuring Kuruk and his pet Nikik:

Avatar: Seven Havens renewed for Books 3 and 4

In other big "Avatar" news, Paramount+ announced that it has renewed the animated series "Avatar: Seven Havens" for "Books 3 and 4." The streamer isn't ready to reveal much about what those just-ordered installments have in store for us, except that "Books 3 and 4 will continue the story of Avatar Pavi and her twin sister Nisha."

It's a quick renewal, especially considering "Seven Havens" just premiered the first three episodes of Book 1 on Friday, October 9. Episodes 4-6 drop October 16, followed by Episodes 7-9 on October 23, and the final three episodes on October 30.

Are you glad to hear that "Avatar: Seven Havens" will enjoy a long life on Paramount+, and are you excited to check out "Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos" when it eventually premieres? Drop a comment with your thoughts on these big franchise announcements below.
