Boston Blue's Gloria Reuben Worked With A Star Trek Actor On Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Gloria Reuben was getting a first-hand look at criminals on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" long before she was cast in the "Blue Bloods" spin-off "Boston Blue." One of Gloria Reuben's first acting roles was in the '80s reboot of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," where she played Pam, a bank teller who unwittingly gives an unfaithful husband the cash he needs to arrange his wife's murder in the Season 2 episode "World's Oldest Motive." The husband in question was played by none other than Dwight Schultz, who portrayed the engineer Reginald Barclay in "Star Trek: TNG." While Reuben's Pam is initially unsuspecting of Schultz's character, David Powell, she becomes shocked after Powell's second thoughts about his crime cause him to behave in an erratic manner.
Both Schultz and Reuben appeared in "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" (one of the best anthology horror TV shows of all time) at relatively early stages in their career. At the time of the episode's 1987 airing, Reuben was eight years away from being cast in "ER," where she made TV history as the HIV-positive physician assistant Jeanie Boulet. Schultz would later establish himself as a Trekkie fan favorite through his portrayal of Reginald Barclay, who reappeared a handful of times on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" after his 1990 debut. While the actors have not appeared onscreen together since their co-starring on their episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," they both have gone on to find their own acting niches, with Schultz focusing largely on voice-over work and Reuben securing roles in TV dramas like "Mr. Robot" and "Boston Blue."
Gloria Reuben's acting career led her to the 'real joy' of playing Mae Silver on Boston Blue
In the years since her work on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," Gloria Reuben's evolving acting career has allowed her to seek out the characters that she finds most fascinating — and according to Reuben herself, the role of District Attorney Mae Silver on "Boston Blue" couldn't be a more perfect fit.
"[I]t was like Mae was written for me, in a way," Reuben told TV Fanatic in a May 2026 interview. To Reuben, Mae Silver's status as matriarch of the Reagan family on "Boston Blue" allows the actress to embody her principal values of "faith, family [and] service" — and it doesn't hurt that, unlike Reuben's role on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," Silver wields an active authority in the crime-fighting process. "Playing a district attorney is the perfect thing for me, because I like to tell people what to do, and I think I'm always right," joked Reuben.
Mae Silver is currently one of the main focuses in the now-airing "Boston Blue" Season 2, which follows Silver's DA reelection campaign against Thad Longfellow. The season premiered on Friday, October 9, and new episodes air every Friday at 10 PM ET on CBS before becoming available on Paramount+ the following day. The official number of episodes in the ongoing Season 2 has yet to be confirmed by CBS or Paramount+.
