If it were up to us, we would renew "The Lincoln Lawyer" for another ten seasons, but Netflix usually doesn't think that far ahead. Thankfully, fans of the legal series have more episodes to look forward to, as Netflix renewed the show for a fifth season ahead of Season 4's premiere earlier this year.

"The Lincoln Lawyer" Season 4 was a doozy for our intrepid attorney Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), as he narrowly escaped a long prison sentence and met a long-lost family member. These events will most certainly factor into Season 5, and we're excited to see where the writers take the story. If you're chomping at the bit in anticipation of new "Lincoln Lawyer" episodes, we've got all the information you need to satiate your interest. Keep reading to discover the verdict for Season 5 of "The Lincoln Lawyer."

How did Season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer End?

In Season 4 of "The Lincoln Lawyer," Mickey Haller faced his toughest case yet: His own. Mickey finds himself on trial for the murder of Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton), a conman client of his. Deputy district attorney Dana Berg (Constance Zimmer) is intent on sending him to prison, and Mickey only escapes by the skin of his teeth — albeit with some help from his prosecutor ex-wife, Maggie (Neve Campbell), who clearly still has feelings for him.

The final minutes of Season 4 ended with a shocking revelation that will serve as a jumping-off point for Season 5. A mysterious woman (played by Cobie Smulders) approaches Mickey in the grocery store parking lot, but before she can introduce herself, she notices guns on the horizon. After saving Mickey's life, she introduces herself as his sister. We were just as shocked as Mickey, but the season ended right then and there.

What will Season 5 be about?

Unsurprisingly, the reveal of Mickey's sister, Emi, in Season 4 of "The Lincoln Lawyer" will play a large part in Season 5. Emi contacted Mickey because she wants his help in exonerating a woman wrongfully convicted of murder. The case obviously resonates with Mickey, and he agrees to help, but, as always, his investigation leads him down a dangerous path.

The fifth season is based on Michael Connelly's book "Resurrection Walk," but with a key difference. In Connelly's books, Detective Harry Bosch (played by Titus Welliver in the Prime Video series) is Mickey's half-brother, and features heavily in "Resurrection Walk." Because Amazon has the rights to the character, Bosch cannot appear in the Netflix show. Speaking with Screen Rant, co-creator Ted Humphrey noted that Emi isn't meant to replace Bosch, but rather present "an opportunity to create new stories."

According to Humphrey, the writers were interested in shaking things up for Season 5. "We felt that it was important to do it from a personal angle and not from just another case," he explained.

Who is in the cast of Season 5?

If you were worried about your favorite characters coming back in Season 5, don't be. The main cast of "The Lincoln Lawyer" will all be returning. This includes Becki Newton (Lorna), Jazz Raycole (Izzy), Angus Sampson (Cisco), and Mickey himself, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Neve Campbell has signed on in a recurring guest role, alongside Gigi Zumbado as Izzy's girlfriend, and Krista Warner and Angélica María, who play Mickey's daughter and mother, respectively.

Season 5 will see the addition of some new faces, as well. We already saw Cobie Smulders playing Mickey's sister in the Season 4 finale, but she's not the only name you might recognize. Other recurring guest stars include Diane Guerrero of "Orange Is the New Black" fame, Tricia Helfer from "Battlestar Galactica," and Amy Aquino, who also appeared on "Bosch" (as a completely different character).

When will Season 5 premiere?

Netflix has not announced an official release date for Season 5 of "The Lincoln Lawyer" as of yet, but according to Michael Connelly, the new season is expected to premiere sometime in 2027. The author told a fan on Threads, "Season 5 coming in 2027." Season 4 premiered on February 5, 2026, following Season 3's October 2024 debut. Each of the show's four seasons has premiered in a different month, so that doesn't give us many clues to go on.

There's really no telling when Season 5 will come out, but Connelly's confidence in a 2027 release is reassuring. Like previous seasons of "The Lincoln Lawyer," Season 5 will run for ten episodes, which will drop all at once, in typical Netflix fashion.

Will there be a season 6?

Unfortunately, Season 5 of "The Lincoln Lawyer" will be the show's last. "All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us," co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez said in a joint statement. Humphrey and Rodriguez also hinted at the potential for the franchise to continue in some fashion, noting that the end of "The Lincoln Lawyer" is "an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future."

To that end, a "Lincoln Lawyer" spin-off is in the works starring Cobie Smulders as Emi. According to Deadline, Humphrey, Rodriguez, and Matthew J. Lieberman are currently writing the script. Unlike the flagship series, this spin-off won't be based on the Michael Connelly novels, since Emi is an original character created for the TV series. Though we're still saddened by the (premature) conclusion of "The Lincoln Lawyer," perhaps this new show will help soften the blow some.
