Severance: Britt Lower, Zach Cherry And Christopher Walken Weigh In On Season 2's Unusual Love Triangles

The following contains spoilers from the Feb. 21 episode of Severance, now streaming on Apple TV+. (Read our full recap.)

Three is proving to be a crowd for several Lumon workplace romances as Apple TV+'s Severance enters the back half of Season 2. Here is what three of the involved actors had to say about the acclaimed drama's most atypical love triangles.

DYLAN G., GRETCHEN & DYLAN GEORGE

In the Outie Family Visitation Suite this week, Dylan G. (played by Zach Cherry) connected further with his Outie's wife, Gretchen (Merritt Wever). "Here with you, I'm super happy," the lovable lunk beamed. "I want to stare at your face.

"I wish we could really be together, like all the time," the Innie went so far as to say. Gretchen countered, "I mean, we are, aren't we?" But as Dylan G. noted, "You and him are. But I'm not."

Dylan G. and Gretchen's latest Family Visitation ended with another, though less-awkward hug... which melted into an embrace, and a "first" kissing session. Is this arguably the weirdest love triangle ever, between an Innie, his Outie's wife and his oblivious Outie?

"I think in some ways, yeah!" says Cherry.

"What I'm very excited about for that story is it's a story we could only tell on this show, where there is a love triangle of sorts between a guy and himself and his wife," Cherry added. "So yeah, I think it'll be fun to see how that plays out."

IRVING BAILIFF, BURT GOODMAN & FIELDS

Irving B. (John Turturro) and Burt G. (Christopher Walken) were quite an item when they both worked at Lumon. But then Burt retired, and Irving B. got fired, and now their Outies can only wonder if a spark is still there. Burt's husband Fields (John Noble) is also wondering, as hinted during the trio's ham dinner in Episode 6.

What Irving and Burt's Innies shared "is 'the elephant in the room'" at that dinner, Walker notes. As far as the formerly severed men know/suspect, "Irving and Burt had been very happy down at Lumon, and suddenly you're on the outside and Burt brings his 'boyfriend' home to meet his husband. What could go wrong!" says Walken with a chuckle. "Everybody knows that that 'party of three' is not a good idea."

HELENA EAGAN, MARK SCOUT & HELLY R. (AND MARK S.?)

OK, maybe this one is a love square, given that Helena Eagan (Britt Lower) had sex with Mark S. (Adam Scott) during the Episode 4 ORTBO, while passing herself off as Helly R. Not long after, Mark S. and the actual Helly R. this week made love themselves. Later, on the outside, Helena approached Mark Scout at a restaurant to 1) apologize for "the systemic error (OTC) from the other night," but also 2) flirt a bit, to seemingly "test" if he senses their connection.

When Helena suggested that Mark meet her father, the creator of the Severance procedure, he quipped, "You wanna take me home to Dad already?" "I think it's time," she smiled, continuing the flirty banter.)

Lower says that, compared to Dylan's own, comparatively chaste triangle, "there's a different Venn diagram of experiences" for Helena, Mark Scout and their respective Innies. That is a main reason why Helena felt compelled to introduce herself to Mark S.' Outie.

"A lot of what we talk about on this show is how the Innies and the Outies have a shared physiology, so their bodies carry the experience of grief, or opening up to a connection with someone else," Lower says. "That bleeds through for these characters, and it changes them in ways they may not even be aware of."
