Superman & Lois EPs Reveal What (And Who) Fans Would Have Seen In Future Seasons

Superman & Lois' series finale, which earned an "A" from TVLine readers, helped the show's titular duo reach an emotionally satisfying conclusion — but their story wasn't supposed to end there.

Prior to the CW drama's cancellation, co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher hoped to have at least seven seasons to properly tell the Man of Steel's story. While they were able to work "some version" of everything they wanted into this final season, quite a few ideas remained untouched.

"If we went on for a couple more seasons, we would have really explored Brainiac," Helbing tells TVLine of the iconic DC character, played on Superman & Lois by Nikolai Witschl. "We would have done more cool, traditional Brainiac stuff with him."

And if you thought Doomsday was a big get for Superman & Lois, wait until you hear who else was on the producers' wishlist: "There's also a way to lead up to Darkseid that we had talked about," Helbing reveals. "I don't know if DC would have given us permission to use Darkseid, but we would have pitched the hell out of it to try to get it. That would have been a lot of fun."

The producers had also hoped to get Adam Rayner back as Superman's brother Tal-Roh, last seen leaving for a new life in the Inverse World at the end of Season 2. Unfortunately, "we weren't able to do it," Fletcher adds. "It just came down to schedules and money and time."
