Starsky & Hutch's David Soul Dead At 80
David Soul, best known for his portrayal of Detective Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson on ABC's Starsky & Hutch from 1975 to 1979, has died. He was 80.
News of Soul's passing was announced by his wife Helen Snell: "He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend," she wrote in a statement. "His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched."
An official cause of death was not announced, but Snell did note that her husband died "after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family."
Prior to his starring role on Starsky & Hutch, Soul was best known for playing Joshua Bolt on ABC's Here Come the Brides from 1968 to 1970. Soul's small-screen career also included roles on iconic series like I Dream of Jeannie, Flipper, Star Trek, All in the Family, the Salem's Lot miniseries and Murder, She Wrote.
Soul, who obtained British citizenship in 2004, also had 15 film credits to his name. He even made a cameo in the 2004 big-screen adaptation of Starsky & Hutch, which starred Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the titular duo.
