Uche Ojeh, Husband Of Today Co-Host Sheinelle Jones, Dead At 45 — Watch On-Air Announcement

Uche Ojeh, husband of Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has died after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 45 years old.

Savannah Guthrie announced Ojeh's passing on Friday's show while surrounded by the rest of Jones' Today family, including Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Carson Daly and Dylan Dryer.

"With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma," Guthrie said. "There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle's perfect partner in life."

What followed was a touching tribute to Ojeh that chronicled his and Jones' love story. The college sweethearts first met in 1999, and wed in September 2007. They would go on to welcome three children: their oldest son, Kayin, who was born in August 2009, and twins, son Uche and daughter Clara, who were born in July 2012.

"One thing he always talked about — he talked about those kids," Melvin recalled. "He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline at every soccer game. He was at all the concerts, the recitals. He was that guy, and they had such a beautiful love story."

Jones first took a leave of absence from Today in December to deal with a "family health matter." In an Instagram post on Jan. 15, she thanked her Today colleagues and her fans for their ongoing support.

"I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I've been absent from the show," she wrote. "I want to share with you that I'm taking time to deal with a family health matter. It's not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me."

Jones shared Friday's on-air announcement on her Instagram account, writing: "Thank you, for all of your love and support." You can watch the full segment below:
