Steve Martin Jokes About Tim Walz Likeness Amid Calls For Him To Play VP Candidate On SNL
Steve Martin sees you seeing him as Saturday Night Live's Tim Walz.
In the immediate wake of Vice President of the Unites States Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, naming the Minnesota governor Walz as her running mate — and amid reports that SNL vet Maya Rudolph will reprise her portrayal of Harris this fall, at least until Election Day — fans of NBC's long-running sketch comedy series got to dreamcasting Walz.
Steve Martin is among the guest stars that have been suggested by fans fit for the gig, sparking an instantly viral meme by, it seems, Threads' Betches.
Before Martin officially declined the offer to play SNL's Tim Walz (after this story was published), he quipped on Threads, "I just learned that Tim Walz wants to go on the road with Marty Short," the veteran comedian's longtime partner in crime (and Only Murders in the Building co-star).
Other possible Walzes suggested across the Internet include comedian Jim Gaffigan, SNL vet and former Minnesota senator Al Franken, Andy Richter, Drew Carey and Parks and Recreation alum Jim O'Heir — though the latter took issue with CNN's choice of photo when circulating a Vanity Fair poll.
I don't mind being in the mix but that's the best pic of me that they could come up with? LOL pic.twitter.com/oRNyZw4m0d

"I don't mind being in the mix," he said on X, "but that's the best pic of me that they could come up with? LOL"
Sigh, poor Garry.
Who would you like to see play VP nominee Tim Walz on SNL, now that Martin has declined the gig? Could any of the actual cast ably fill the election-season role?
