The Gilded Age Season 3 Trailer Will Have You Clutching Your Pearls
As you'll see in the just-released trailer above, big changes are in store for HBO's The Gilded Age when it returns for Season 3 (June 22, 9/8c) — and Agnes van Rhijn isn't happy about any of them.
For starters, Marian and Larry are still going strong, following their initial lip lock in the Season 2 finale. The trailer above features lots of stolen glances and clandestine kisses between the two — and even talk of marriage! "Some people want to marry for love," Marian says. "I know I do."
"It was always in the background," series creator Julian Fellowes told TVLine after the couple's lip lock. "Certainly when the actors were cast, they were cast as a couple who looked compatible on screen if we got there. You can never be too definite, because sometimes performances don't happen, or things occur, or ideas come in and your original plan isn't what's adhered to. But in that instance, I think we always knew they were headed for each other."
The Gilded Age's eight-episode third season picks up shortly after the events of the great Opera War, with the Russell family now firmly established as societal leaders. According to HBO's official logline, "Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry — if it doesn't ruin him first."
Meanwhile, "the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes refuses to accept Ada's new position as lady of the house; Peggy meets a handsome doctor from Newport whose family is less than enthusiastic about her career; and as all of New York hastens toward the future, their ambition may come at the cost of what they truly hold dear."
In addition to the show's returning cast, we'll meet a number of new faces in Season 3. As previously reported, we'll be introduced to characters played by Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show), Andrea Martin (Evil), Brian Stokes Mitchell (Mr. Robot), Victoria Clark (Almost Family), Jordan Donica (The CW's Charmed), Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent) and Merritt Wever (Unbelievable), among others.
