The Residence Cancelled At Netflix

Netflix is shutting the doors to The Residence, cancelling its murder mystery series after just one season, TVLine has confirmed. (Freshman drama Pulse has also been canceled.)

The Residence starred Uzo Aduba as quirky detective Cordelia Cupp, who uses her cunning intellect and obsessive bird-watching abilities to crack otherwise unsolvable cases. The show's first (and now only) season sent Cordelia to the White House, where she solved the murder of Chief Usher A. B. Wynter, played by Giancarlo Esposito.

Season 1's expansive ensemble cast also included Molly Griggs as social secretary Lilly Schumacher, Ken Marino as chief adviser Harry Hollinger, Randall Park as FBI Special Agent Edwin Park, Susan Kelechi Watson as usher Jasmine Harvey, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Chief of Police Larry Dokes, Edwina Findley as butler Sheila Cannon, Jason Lee as First Brother Tripp Morgan, Al Mitchell as head butler Rollie Bridgewater, Dan Perrault as Secret Service head Colin Trask, Bronson Pinchot as executive pastry chef Didier Gotthard Julieth Restrepo as housekeeper Elsyie Chayle, Mel Rodriguez as engineer Bruce Geller, Engineer, and Mary Wiseman as executive chef Marvella.

When TVLine spoke with series creator Paul William Davies earlier this year, he expressed a strong interest in doing another season of The Residence, suggesting that any future story would have to start with Aduba's Cordelia at its center.

"She's Cordelia Cup, she's the sun around which everything else revolves," Davis said. "So whether it's more in the White House or somewhere else, I really do think there's more story to tell with her. I've got ideas, so I hope people respond to her and [to the show], and then we can do it."

Davies was also an executive producer on The Residence, along with Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

Deadline was the first to report on this cancellation. Were you a fan of The Residence? Drop a comment with your thoughts on the Netflix whodunit below.
