We Were Liars Renewed For Season 2
Prime Video is giving us another summer with the Sinclairs, renewing We Were Liars for Season 2, TVLine has learned.
Developed for TV by Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and Carina Adly Mackenzie (The Originals), the show's first season was a faithful adaptation of E. Lockhart's 2014 novel We Were Liars, with elements of its 2022 follow-up Family of Liars sprinkled throughout all eight episodes. The season finale even ends with one character seeing the ghost of her dead son, which is essentially how Family of Liars begins.
"That final scene is very close to the opening of my second book in the We Were Liars universe," Lockhart told TVLine when the first season dropped in June. "Really, it's a tip forward into Season 2 — should we get a Season 2 — but it's also a tip forward to the book that comes after We Were Liars. We all hope for a Season 2, and I know the showrunners have all kinds of plans." Spoiler alert: We're getting one, and they do!
We Were Liars' first season starred Emily Alyn Lind (Max's Gossip Girl) as Cadence, Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex) as Penny, Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife) as Carrie, Candice King (The Vampire Diaries) as Bess, Rahul Kohli (iZombie) as Ed, newcomer Shubham Maheshwari as Gat, Esther McGregor (High School) as Mirren, Joseph Zada (Australia's Invisible Boys) as Johnny and David Morse (Treme) as Harris.
As foreshadowed by Bess in the finale, the show's second season will flash back to when she and her sisters were spending their own not-so-carefree teenage summers on Beechwood Island. As you may recall, Bess even wonders if the events of We Were Liars were somehow "punishment" for what they all did the summer she was 16.
