Wednesday Star Reacts To Finale's Shocking 'Thing' Reveal — Plus, Could [Spoiler] Return In Season 3?
We really have to hand it to Netflix's Wednesday, whose second season finale included a jaw-dropping twist we never imagined we'd see. Like, not in a million years.
We're referring, of course, to the reveal that Thing — the Addams Family's literal right hand — actually belongs to Tyler's evil uncle Isaac Night, who reclaimed his severed appendage and became more formidable than ever in Episode 8. (The show was even good enough to spell out that "Thing" is an anagram for "Night" via a campy little animation.)

"It was really cool, and I felt a little bit of the pressure to do it right," Isaac's portrayer Owen Painter tells TVLine. "But that went away so fast with how much fun stuff there was to do. I kind of thought I would just be the goofy monster [Slurp] the whole time when I first got there, so this was a big surprise. It was a real game changer."
Speaking of game changers, Isaac's master plan went particularly south when Thing regained full control of his actions, resulting in a final battle between Isaac and... himself. Perfecting the physicality of the sequence required "a lot of practice," Painter says. "That thing took, like, eight days to shoot. We would just show up and every day [director Tim Burton] would have some fun new shot he wanted to try out. I was just flopping around on the floor, you couldn't ask for a more fun time."
The zany battle reached a dramatic conclusion when Thing ripped Isaac's mechanical heart from his chest, ending his life... again. But here's the thing — if Isaac could come back from the dead once, what's to stop him from returning again in Season 3? "I'm not sure," Owen says of a potential comeback for Isaac down the line. "I mean, never say never."
For the record, Hunter Doohan would love to have his on-screen uncle back, reminding TVLine that "they bring back people from the dead on this show all the time." And even if Isaac doesn't fully return to the land of the living, Doohan offers this pitch: "I keep saying Tyler needs his own spirit guide."
