Why Mickey Fox From Sheriff Country Looks So Familiar

Morena Baccarin stars as straight-shooting Edgewater sheriff Mickey Fox on CBS' "Sheriff Country." The character was first introduced as the stepsister of Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) during the second season of "Fire Country." That Season 2 episode, "Alert the Sheriff," paved the way for the standalone spin-off.

If Baccarin looks familiar, sci-fi fans may know her as the Companion Inara Serra in Joss Whedon's space Western "Firefly," a role she later reprised on the big screen in 2005's "Serenity."

In 2009, Baccarin continued to reign in the sci-fi genre when she took on the role of Anna, leader of the extraterrestrial Visitors, in ABC's reboot of "V."  She later earned an Emmy nomination for playing Jessica Brody, the wife of a long-missing U.S. Marine, on Showtime's political thriller "Homeland." DC Comics fans may also recognize her as physician Dr. Lee Thompkins, whom she played across five seasons on Fox's Batman prequel "Gotham." She's also voiced quite a few DC Comics characters on TV.

Morena Baccarin's time in Gotham City was not her only foray into the comic book realm. She made the jump from DC Comics to Marvel when she played Vanessa Carlysle, the love interest of Ryan Reynolds' titular Merc with a Mouth, in "Deadpool" and "Deadpool 2." She also briefly reprised the role in "Deadpool & Wolverine." Speaking to Variety, Baccarin expressed interest in revisiting Vanessa. "I hope that I get to do more of it and participate a little bit more than the last one. But I understood that it was the bro comedy."

More recently, Baccarin joined another iconic universe as the Sorceress in 2026's live-action "Masters of the Universe," based on the Mattel franchise. The mythical role had a personal connection for the "Sheriff Country" star. In the same Variety interview, Baccarin recalled growing up with the original animated series. "I grew up watching He-Man, my brother and I, so it was a really big part of my childhood," she said. "It was really cool once I got there and saw the costume and what they had in mind for me."
