Why John Tucker From Off Campus Looks So Familiar

The first season of Prime Video's new hockey romance series "Off Campus" sees actors Belmont Cameli and Ella Bright take center stage as the romantic pairing of Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells, though Jalen Thomas Brooks' John Tucker is another character fans are enjoying.

Viewers might first and foremost recognize the hockey-playing heartthrob as nurse Mateo Diaz in HBO's "The Pitt." In Seasons 1 and 2 of the Emmy-winning medical drama, Mateo provides crucial assistance to patients at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Years earlier, Brooks made his professional acting debut in one episode of The CW's "Supergirl" series. In Season 5, he played Simon Kirby, a troubled teen who gets a photographer gig at the Calvintown Gazette. Soon after, Brooks guest-starred as pop star Jack Swagger in Season 5 of Nickelodeon's "Henry Danger."

Brooks first landed a recurring TV role in 2021 when he portrayed Sean in ABC's legal drama "Rebel," but the series was canceled after one season. In the same year, Brooks appeared as the surf shop employee Blaise in four episodes of Season 5 of "Animal Kingdom." The actor's slew of projects continued in 2021 with The CW's neo-Western series "Walker," which saw him feature in 20 episodes across Seasons 2 and 3 as Colton Davidson. Brooks' character played a key part in his family's rivalry with the Walkers, and he even had a love interest. Lastly, horror movie enthusiasts may remember Brooks as Bobby in the 2023 slasher film "Thanksgiving."

As "Off Campus" gears up for Season 2, Brooks is already confirmed as one of the returning actors. He should have a lot of material to work with on the show, as John Tucker discovers himself on and away from the hockey rink. In fact, author Elle Kennedy's "Off Campus" book series gives John his own spotlight in the fourth novel, "The Goal." The story involves John starting a romance with Sabrina James and having a child with her during their senior year at Briar University.

"Off Campus" Season 2 is set to adapt the events of "The Score," which centers on Stephen Kalyn's Dean Di Laurentis and Mika Abdalla's Allie Hayes. Thus, it appears Brooks will have to wait a bit longer for John's love story with Sabrina (who has not yet been cast for the series). Still, the actor remains eager to continue his arc in the next season. "I'm looking forward to Tucker stepping up to the plate in the biggest way a man can and exploring how a young man handles being thrust into multiple leadership positions," Brooks told StyleCaster. "There are so many messages within Tucker and the world that is being created around him."

Prime Video has not announced a release date for "Off Campus" Season 2, though it should premiere at some point in 2027.
