Casting News: This Summer Will Be Different Adds 4, A Chicago Med Exit, And More

Malin Akerman is trading "The Hunting Wives" for a different kind of Netflix romance.

Akerman has joined the forthcoming adaptation of Carley Fortune's "This Summer Will Be Different" as Aunt Stacy, TVLine has learned. Also boarding the series are Megan Follows ("Anne of Green Gables") as Cheryl, Nadine Bhabha ("Heated Rivalry") as Farah, and Matias Lucas ("The Order") as Carter.

Based on Fortune's novel of the same name, the 10-episode drama is described as "a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy (played by Sophie Nélisse, "Yellowjackets"), a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend's brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for."

• Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, who has recurred as "Chicago Med" doctor Naomi Howard since Season 9, says she is not returning to the NBC medical drama for Season 12. "I haven't seen you in ages hope you're doing well :) can I ask will you be returning to Chicago Med?" a fan asked Chestnut on TikTok. The actress responded: "Thank you! Hope you're well too :) And no."
• Ben Platt ("The Politician") and Russell Tovey ("Years and Years") have joined the fifth and final season of HBO's "Industry." Platt will play Matt Crenshaw, "a venture capitalist and an early backer of a wellness-tech company," while Tovey will play Declan P. Davis, "deputy to left-wing politician Nikesh Shah," played by fellow Season 5 newcomer Bally Gill.
• Amy Ryan ("Only Murders in the Building") will star opposite Emilia Jones ("Task") in Netflix's "The Retrievals." Inspired by the New York Times podcast of the same name, the drama series "follows an unlikely community of IVF patients who come together to crusade against Yale University after they are operated on without anesthesia — because a nurse stole their fentanyl," per the official logline. Ryan will play the aforementioned nurse, Carla Russo.
