Why Josh Regis From Crew Girl Looks So Familiar

Some viewers enjoying Season 1 of Netflix's teen drama "Crew Girl" might recognize Josh Regis as more than just Easton Prep's snobbish rowing captain. Played by actor Samuel Braun, Josh has his own legacy to build as Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau) enters his life and sparks unexpected challenges, including a steamy love triangle.

Braun has been acting professionally since 2013, and even though he doesn't have the most extensive filmography, there are at least a few projects viewers could recall seeing him in before "Crew Girl." Early on, Braun played a young Luke (Jake Abel) in "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" and portrayed a high-schooler named Brad in a Season 5 episode of DC's "Legends of Tomorrow" series. Braun returned to DC in "Superman & Lois" Season 1, appearing as the high school football player Jimmy Cutter. 

The popular procedural "Fire Country" featured Braun in Season 1, Episode 14 as Chris, who experiences chaos at the town fair. Hallmark Channel fans may remember Braun from "The Way Home," where he portrayed a teenaged Nick Oates (Kerry James) throughout Seasons 1 and 2. Two of Braun's most recent movies released on Netflix, the first of which was the 2024 slasher dark comedy "Time Cut" –- in which he was a student named Ethan. Earlier this year, Braun appeared in the romance "Voicemails for Isabelle" as Equinox Ethan.

Playing Josh Regis in "Crew Girl" is a brand new adventure for Samuel Braun, as he plays a character who undergoes vast changes from the beginning to the end of the show's first season. Between his enemies-to-lovers arc with Teagan — who also falls for fellow rower Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark) — and his health issues, Josh is forced to face adversity in spite of his privileged upbringing.

"Crew Girl" also required Braun and his co-stars to learn how to row for the first time. As a former diver, Braun had dabbled in sports before. However, he had never engaged in a team sport like rowing. "I'm used to individual sports," Braun told the Netflix publication Tudum. "Being in a boat with lots of people, there's so much coordination. If one of you is off, it can throw off the balance and rhythm. That was such great team bonding for the cast."

As of now, there's no official word on whether "Crew Girl" will return for Season 2, but all eight episodes of Season 1 are now available to stream on Netflix.
