Abbott Elementary Taps Katy Mixon To Guest-Star In Season 6 — Watch Trailer

"Abbott Elementary" is getting a visit from an "American Housewife."

Katy Mixon will guest-star in the upcoming Season 6 of ABC's schoolhouse comedy, a source confirms to TVLine. We get our first look at her in a newly released trailer, and her pink tracksuit-clad character clashes with Melissa right away. "That is my chair," she informs Melissa as she walks into her classroom. (Maybe she's a former teacher?) Melissa tries to remind her of "the hierarchy around here" while flipping her hair... but Mixon's character flips her hair right back: "I'm not going anywhere." Ooh... we can't wait to see this showdown.

Mixon — now officially credited as Katy Mixon Greer — previously starred in ABC's "American Housewife," playing Connecticut mom Katie Otto for five seasons. (The show was canceled in 2021.) Her other TV credits include "Eastbound & Down" and "Mike & Molly."

Elsewhere in the trailer (which you can watch above): Gregory settles into his new role as assistant principal... by getting yelled at by angry parents; Ava tracks down the superintendent on the golf course just to chew him out in person; Melissa takes on a new role as union representative; and Janine's ex Tariq is back (much to our delight).   

When "Abbott Elementary" returns for Season 6 — next Wednesday, October 7 at 8:30 p.m. on ABC — the halls will be more crowded than ever, since the district shut down a bunch of schools in the season finale, leaving Abbott to pick up the slack. Plus, Gregory will be serving as Ava's new assistant principal, and "he takes the job very, very seriously," executive producer Justin Halpern told TVLine in our Fall TV Preview. "Probably, at face value, certainly more seriously than Ava takes her job." The two of them "have different styles, different philosophies, so there'll be a little bit of tension there."

But the show's EPs are mum on whether Gregory will pop the question to Janine this season, after asking O'Shon about engagement rings in the finale. "What I will say is we carry through with our storylines," executive producer Patrick Schumacker hints, "and that is, I think, all I can say about that right now."
