Imperfect Women Renewed For Season 2 — But Only One Of Its Three Leading Ladies Is Returning To Star
"Imperfect Women" isn't so limited after all.
Apple TV has renewed the thriller, originally conceived as a miniseries, for Season 2, with Kerry Washington set to reprise her role as Eleanor and executive-produce a new story centered on her character.
Elisabeth Moss, who starred alongside Washington and Kate Mara in Season 1, will return as an executive producer, but Apple's announcement does not indicate that either Moss or Mara will reprise their on-screen roles.
"We were thrilled to see how deeply these women and their stories resonated with audiences around the world, and I'm so excited to step back into Eleanor's shoes," Washington said in a statement. "She's intelligent and strong, but she also finds herself navigating complicated and sometimes messy situations."
Everything We Know About Imperfect Women Season 2
"Imperfect Women" Season 1, which was based on Araminta Hall's novel of the same name, centered on a crime that shattered the decades-long friendship between Eleanor, Moss' Mary, and Mara's Nancy. (TVLine's Dave Nemetz gave Season 1 a "B.")
Season 2 will tell an original story, shepherded by series creator Annie Weisman and new co-showrunner Justin Hillian ("The Chi," "Snowfall"). The official logline reads: "Eleanor returns to her hometown roots in the affluent black enclave of Martha's Vineyard, only to find that beneath its idyllic surface, lie secrets and scandals that threaten to upend everything she thought she knew about her past."
"We jumped at the opportunity to expand the world of 'Imperfect Women' through Kerry's fan favorite character of Eleanor," Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss said Monday. "Annie and Justin's thrilling new story felt like an exciting and natural next chapter."
