There's been much chatter about whether Tom Selleck would ever appear on the "Blue Bloods" spinoff, "Boston Blue," and now its star Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, has thrown his two cents into the conversation. While speaking with People to promote "Boston Blue" Season 2, Wahlberg revealed his enthusiasm for reuniting with Selleck, who played Frank Reagan on "Blue Bloods." "I learned so much from him," Wahlberg shared, "and I have the utmost respect for him. I love him and I miss him. I want him to be on the show at some point."

However, he noted the condition that would need to be met before Selleck returned to the "Blue Bloods" universe. "It's going to require the most thoughtful, elegant episode that the Brandons [co-creators Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis] and I can pull together," he said. "And he will do it, but it has to be something really special, because he takes what he does very seriously. And he takes the legacy of the show seriously. He takes Frank Reagan seriously."

Wahlberg's comments echo comments recently made by Margolis and Sonnier. While speaking with ScreenRant, they both stressed the importance of setting up the perfect narrative to support Selleck's appearance.

Donnie Wahlberg loves having his Blue Bloods co-stars on Boston Blue

Tom Selleck's Frank Reagan hasn't yet ventured outside of NYC for a trip to Boston, but several other "Blue Bloods" characters, including Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), already have.

Will Estes, who played Danny's brother Jamie Reagan on "Blue Bloods," will also appear in a Season 2 episode of "Boston Blue." In an interview with TVLine, Donnie Wahlberg told us the onscreen reunion was emotional: "Man, what a wonderful experience that was for both of us ... to reconnect. We played all this history, but we have history off screen, too, and we haven't spoken in a while. ... It was very healing ... and wonderful ... and emotional."

Of course, Wahlberg is happy when any of his "Blue Bloods" co-stars appear on "Boston Blue." Wahlberg told Entertainment Weekly, "All the actors from 'Blue Bloods' that have come through, it's been amazing." And he isn't the only one who's happy. He continued, "The cast of 'Boston Blue' loves them and appreciates them and welcomes them with open arms. I think it surprises the cast from 'Blue Bloods.'" In Wahlberg's opinion, the "Blue Bloods" cast didn't realize just how much appreciation there was for what they'd created.
