Spider-Man Clone Saga TV Show Eyes Series Order At Prime Video

Prime Video is taking another shot at snaring Spider-Man. 

The streamer is nearing a series order for a new Spider-Man TV show based on the famous Clone Saga storyline from the Marvel comic books, Deadline reports. The news comes less than a month after Prime Video canceled "Spider-Noir," starring Nicolas Cage, after one season.

The new series will reportedly focus on two Spider-Man clones, Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker. (Cage played a film noir version of Ben Reilly in "Spider-Noir.") Kelvin Yu ("American Born Chinese") is set to write the new series, which may make "significant changes" to the story in the comic books, Deadline warns. (In the comics, both Ben and Kaine are clones of Peter Parker, with Ben taking on the superhero identity of the Scarlet Spider.)

The new series, which remains untitled at this early stage, is expected to get a linear debut on Amazon's MGM+ in addition to its streaming release on Prime Video.

Prime Video just tried adapting the Spider-Man universe into a live-action series with "Spider-Noir," with Nicolas Cage starring as Ben Reilly, a 1930s private eye with secret spidey powers. (Read our review here.) The supporting cast included Lamorne Morris ("New Girl") as newspaper reporter Robbie, Li Jun Li ("Sinners") as nightclub singer Cat Hardy, and Brendan Gleeson as crime boss Silvermane. The series even offered viewers two ways to watch: in color, or in vintage black-and-white, to match the film noir vibe.

"Spider-Noir" debuted on Prime Video in May, with all eight episodes dropping at once, and earned 11 Emmy nominations, winning four. But Prime Video pulled the plug in September, canceling the show after just one season. Cage was proud of what he and the cast and crew achieved, though, he said in a statement: "For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man.
