9-1-1: Nashville EP Hints At Lone Star Characters Returning In Crossover: 'That's In The Works In A Big Way'

The "9-1-1" universe could be coming together like never before — and soon. While discussing the upcoming second season of "9-1-1: Nashville" with TVLine, showrunner Rashad Raisani revealed that the ABC spin-off will deliver multiple crossovers this season, including the potential return of characters from the late, great "9-1-1: Lone Star."

The first crossover of Season 2 comes by way of a FaceTime call with Buck (Oliver Stark) from "9-1-1" in the second episode. While facing the season's opening crisis, "our characters are like, 'We can't even imagine that we're seeing is real,' and then somebody's like, 'You know, Buck told us about this problem they had,'" Raisani teases. "So it's a fun thing where [the 118] help us solve a problem." As you may recall, Buck and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) met several "9-1-1: Nashville" characters when they crossed over to the ABC spin-off for the annual firefighter games last season.

But which one-of-a-kind emergency could possibly require Buck's assistance? Raisani adds that the show's new Big Bad will terrorize Nashville with crimes inspired by Biblical plagues, even teasing a "swarm" of some kind — so something tells us we haven't heard the word "bee-nado" for the last time. 

"We also want to do another big OG crossover," Raisani says. "And I've been saying from day one that I want to bring some 'Lone Star' people in, and that's in the works in a big way." (Raisani was also showrunner of "9-1-1: Lone Star," which aired for five seasons on Fox.) "I think that'll be a really great crossover around Episode 8 or 9," he teases.

"9-1-1: Nashville" returns for Season 2 on Thursday, October, 15 at 9/8c, sandwiched between the Season 10 premiere of "9-1-1" and the Season 23 premiere of "Grey's Anatomy."

Interestingly enough, the city of New York will also play a major role in building connections between the three "9-1-1" shows.

Season 2 introduces Ryan Phillippe as Detective Rogue, a former homicide detective for the NYPD. Knowing that he comes from New York, we couldn't help but wonder if Rogue ever crossed paths with Owen Strand (played by Rob Lowe), who became chief of the New York Fire Department in the series finale of Fox's "9-1-1: Lone Star."

"Yes, but the New York thing is big for other characters as well," showrunner Rashad Raisani tells TVLine. Reminding us that Roxie (Juani Feliz) is also from New York, he teases, "There was a certain paramedic from New York from the show that Roxie might know," alluding to Owen's son T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein). "There's a lot of New York in the '9-1-1' backstories, even though we've never set a show there, so we definitely want to say that some of these people bumped into each other."
