Casting News: Scott Foley To Play The Prez At Hulu, Scrubs Adds Tamera Mowry, And More

Scott Foley is headed to the Oval Office: The "Scandal" alum will play the President of the United States in the Hulu drama pilot "Young Americans," Deadline reports.

Foley will play President Judd Burchfield, "a principled politician who rose to office by trusting his heartland instincts," according to the official description. "His steady hand has been shaken by the tragic death of his firstborn daughter. As he struggles to hold his family and the country together, an old political rivalry is about to become deeply personal."

"Young Americans" focuses on the next generation, though, the logline reveals: "As the children of the nation's elite battle it out at Capitol Crest Academy in Washington, D.C., their teenage dramas begin to mirror the larger political games of their parents. Amidst the secrets, scandals, and deadly ambitions, a forbidden romance between two students from opposing political families threatens to escalate tensions to a breaking point."

Foley is a TV veteran who first broke out as nerdy college R.A. Noel Crane on The WB's "Felicity." He later played Navy veteran Jake Ballard on ABC's "Scandal" and recently played the late Dr. Seth McDale on ABC's "Will Trent." His other TV credits include "Scrubs," "Grey's Anatomy," "The Unit," and "True Blood."  

• ABC's "Scrubs" revival has added Tamera Mowry-Housley ("Sister, Sister") as a guest star in Season 2, TVLine has learned. She'll play Dr. Steffie, a pediatric doctor who tries to persuade Ava Bunn's Tosh to choose peds as her specialty. Mowry will appear in the second half of Season 2's two-part premiere, which starts Wednesday, September 30 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
• Emmy winner Judith Light ("Who's the Boss," "Transparent") will join the cast of Apple TV's "Shrinking" in Season 4 in a recurring role, Variety reports. No details on her role have been announced.
• Sara Gilbert ("The Conners") will play "an important journalist" in HBO Max's Superman spin-off "The People V. Gorilla Grodd," per Deadline.
• Mekki Leeper ("St. Denis Medical") will star in the comedy series "New Money," which has earned a series order at Prime Video, according to Deadline. The series "follows a trust-fund baby-turned (self-proclaimed) mogul and his staff of misguided wannabes at New Money Worldwide, Southern California's least successful venture capital firm."
• Sam Worthington ("Avatar") and Sofia Carson ("Descendants") will star in "The Parsifal Mosaic," a drama series in development at Hulu, Variety reports. The series, based on the Robert Ludlum novel, centers on CIA officer Michael Havelock, who "is ready to get out of the game when he learns that his partner Jenna Karas — secretly the love of his life — has betrayed him, and begins unravelling a powerful conspiracy that reaches around the globe."
• The Paramount+ series "Discretion," starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, has added four to its cast in recurring roles, per Deadline: Zazie Beetz ("Atlanta"), Ben Foster ("Hell or High Water"), Stella Baker ("The Republic of Sarah"), and John Hoogenakker ("The Morning Show").
