9-1-1 Season 10 Trailer: An Active Volcano Transforms Los Angeles Into 'La-Va Land'
"Volcanoes, sinkholes, fatherhood, love, death, humor, laughter, and lots and lots of food." That's how "9-1-1" showrunner Tim Minear summarizes the show's upcoming 10th season, some of which is on display in ABC's official trailer.
"Funnily enough, it opens with a giant sinkhole," Minear tells TVLine of Season 10. "And while we were prepping that, a giant sinkhole opened up on Sunset Boulevard. It's not my fault! I would chalk that more up to the competence of how the city is run. But, yeah, it's a giant sinkhole that then turns into, of course, a volcano."
Looking ahead to the show's milestone season, Minear says, "I don't know if it's business as usual, but we were kind of laying the groundwork last season to have some fresh ground to cover this season. Athena's going to be a detective, Buck's trying to be a dad, May is starting her new career in the medical field, and Harry's a firefighter now. We didn't do it all at once, but we gradually started planting those seeds. It's the same show, but hopefully not a hamster wheel of a show."
Season 10 of "9-1-1" kicks off on Thursday, October 15 at 8/7c, followed by the Season 2 premiere of "9-1-1: Nashville" and the Season 23 premiere of "Grey's Anatomy."
"9-1-1" stars Angela Bassett as Detective Athena Grant, Oliver Stark as firefighter Evan "Buck" Buckley, Aisha Hinds as firefighter/paramedic Henrietta "Hen" Wilson, Kenneth Choi as Captain Howard "Chimney" Han, Jennifer Love Hewitt as dispatcher Maddie Han, Ryan Guzman as firefighter/paramedic Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz, Corinne Massiah as nurse May Grant, Elijah M. Cooper as firefighter Harry Grant, and Gavin McHugh as Eddie's son Christopher Diaz.
How did 9-1-1 Season 9 end?
The final episodes of "9-1-1" Season 9 threw a stream of curveballs at the 118, sending several characters in unexpected new directions as we approach the ABC procedural's milestone year.
Following yet another near-death experience — this time involving a human-trafficking ring and a crooked detective — Athena decided to take her career to the next level. After years of pounding the pavement as a sergeant, she's now strutting the streets as a full-fledged detective. Her kids are also finding their place in the world; Harry is entering his second season as a firefighter, and May has decided to pursue nursing.
Hen spent much of Season 9 fighting a mysterious illness, which turned out to be dermatomyositis, an auto-immune disorder likely caused by the radiation she encountered in outer space. Her secrecy and recklessness temporarily cost Hen her job, but she was eventually reinstated.
And remember when Buck donated sperm to his buddy Connor and his wife Kameron back in Season 6? Buck finally reconnected with the couple after three years, only to discover that little Theo is basically his mini-me. In a tragic turn of events, Connor and Kameron were killed in a car crash, and now Buck has signed paperwork to become Theo's legal guardian. And this was already a doozy of a season for Buck; after a kidnapping incident in New Mexico, he developed an addiction to prescription painkillers, putting his future with the 118 at risk.
In other Season 9 updates, Maddie took over Sue's position as dispatch supervisor, Chimney continued to settle into his role as captain of the 118, and Ravi and May began a new relationship — though Harry really wishes he hadn't found out the way he did. As for Eddie, he dealt with some serious loss this season (R.I.P., Abuela!), only to be stabbed in the finale by the same crime family who targeted Athena.
